PAMS NAIDOC Open Day in Newman

In recognition of NAIDOC Week 2022, Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) held NAIDOC Open Day in Newman, which saw the community come together and celebrate Indigenous achievements, history and rich culture.

The NAIDOC Week theme for 2022 is Get Up! Stand Up! Stow Up! Which called on everyone to amplify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and close the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent and outcome.

There was a range of family fun activities at the Open Day, including face painting, hair braiding, games, food, and live music.

PAMS CEO Robby Chibawe said they are proud to host a community event to honour Indigenous culture and shine a light on this year’s theme.

“NAIDOC Week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the local Nyiyaparli and Martu people and enhance community connection,” said Robby.

“It’s wonderful to come together as a community to celebrate the oldest living culture on Earth and honour the Traditional Owners of the lands we service.”

“PAMS is thrilled to commemorate this year’s theme on how we can all get up, stand up, show up towards reconciliation and improve outcomes for First Nations people,” he added.
